Shenzhen Adult Expo Postponed to March 2027, Setting Up Direct Competition with Shanghai

August 21, 2026 — The Shenzhen International Adult Health and Wellness Products Exhibition (SZI EXPO), originally scheduled for September 18–20, 2026, has been officially postponed to March 5–7, 2027, at Hall 10 of the Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center (Bao'an).

According to a statement released by the organizers through industry media, the postponement was attributed to “unforeseen circumstances outside the organizers' control,” specifically temporary government restrictions and event approval requirements in Shenzhen related to preparations for an upcoming APEC meeting.

The sudden change has significantly disrupted the exhibition plans of numerous exhibitors and buyers. Industry media reports indicate that the organizers had originally planned to host approximately 450 international buyers and had arranged events including an on-site investment promotion conference for overseas attendees. Following the postponement notice, the organizers were forced to “reimburse flight cancellation fees for overseas buyers one by one,” resulting in a substantial reduction of the planned international buyer presence.

“We finalized our exhibition budget and staffing arrangements early in the year—Shenzhen in September, Shanghai in April next year. The schedule was supposed to be staggered. Now the two shows are crammed together, and our budget simply can't cover both,” an exhibitor from Guangdong told us. Multiple industry sources report that some exhibitors have begun reassessing their participation strategies, considering a “pick one of two” approach between the two events.

The more far-reaching impact lies in the reshaping of the exhibition competitive landscape. Previously, the Shenzhen SZI Expo and the Hong Kong Asia Adult Expo (AAE) were in direct competition—both scheduled for the second half of 2026, exhibitors and buyers had to choose between two geographically proximate events. With the Shenzhen show pushed to March 2027, however, its primary competitor has shifted from Hong Kong to Shanghai.

According to publicly available information, the 2027 Shanghai International Adult Products and Lifestyle Expo (API EXPO) is scheduled for April 16–18, 2027, at the Shanghai Convention & Exhibition Center of International Sourcing. The event is expected to attract over 50,000 professional visitors and 400 exhibiting companies, with a total exhibition area of 30,000 square meters. This means only about six weeks will separate the Shenzhen and Shanghai shows—marking the first time the two major expos will go head-to-head within the same quarter.

“Shenzhen and Shanghai have overlapping market positioning, though their client bases are not identical. Shenzhen leans more toward foreign trade and supply chain, while Shanghai focuses more on branding and channels,” an analyst who has long tracked the adult products industry noted. “With the two shows so close together, it will be a tremendous test of exhibitors' and buyers' energy and budgets. Smaller exhibitors in particular may be forced to choose between the two.”

Notably, the Hong Kong Asia Adult Expo (AAE) has also adjusted its 2027 schedule. According to the organizer, AAE 2027 will be held from May 15–17, 2027, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This means that in the first half of 2027, three major adult products exhibitions—Shenzhen (March), Shanghai (April), and Hong Kong (May)—will follow one another in consecutive months across China and its surrounding region.

Some analysts suggest that Hong Kong's schedule adjustment may be a strategic response to the Shenzhen postponement—by moving its dates to May, it creates a buffer between Shenzhen (March) and Shanghai (April), avoiding a three-way scramble for limited exhibitor and buyer resources within the same time window.

“Postponing one show sets off a chain reaction across the entire industry's calendar,” the analyst concluded. “The first half of next year will be a real test of exhibitor loyalty and buyer attention for the adult products industry.”
